Report about the 10th annual meeting of the working group Eichsfeld

 

From 3rd to 5th of October 2003 the members and friends of the working group Eichsfeld met at their annual meeting in Heiligenstadt. Also the members of the "Club of Eichsfeldian local studies (VEH)" took part.

The get-together started on friday evening at 7 p.m. with a relaxed evening at the restaurant "Norddeutscher Bund". More than 40 genealogists came to get in contact. A lot of them used the possibilities to exchange their genealogical results and to make new contacts. Also the PC provided by Mr. Frankenberg and containing electronical copies of church records was used heavily.

At saturday 10 a.m. the meeting was continued with a convention at the plenary assembly hall of the new city hall. It started with short welcoming speechs of Mrs. Born, the vice mayor of Heiligenstadt, Mr. Anhalt, president of the VEH and Mr. Prien, leader of the working group.

Ewald Frankenberg and Matthias Kohl gave a lecture on basics of genealogical research in the Eichsfeld. After that Dr. Alfons Grunenberg spoke about the "criminal" background of the donation of a pew in Heuthen. After a short break Mr. Anhalt informed the more than 80 guests about a special chapter in the Eichsfeld-history, the prussian border officials. Mr. Lauerwald spoke about money and currencies in the Eichsfeld from the 16th to the 19th century, and Mr. Haiduk presented the family book of Witterda. The last report was given by Mr. Degenhard regarding the family book of Martinfeld. With a common lunch at the "Norddeutscher Bund" the morning ended.

The afternoon was used for genealogy at the parish hall of St. Mary. Around 65 genealogists from germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherland and the Carribeans took part. Also in this year we could welcome several new genealogists who were informed of the meeting by our website or newspapers.

The researcher exchenged in small groups their results and found out their relationships which was one of the main targets of the recent meeting.

Beside old documents, photo-pictures and family trees also modern technologies were used. The copy machine is a standard equipments for years, the amount of laptops is countless and of the guests brought his own scanner with him. At the PC containing electronical copies of church records at least the new members could find new information. A lot of family trees could enlarged by several generations.

Long time after midnight some of the guests were adsobed by the interesting conversation.

At sunday morning all members had the chance to continue their discussions and to exchange adresses which enables them to get in contact with others more than once a year.

All participiants were satisfied with the smootly sequence of the event, the friendly athmosphere, the organisation and the food and service. They can't await the 11th annual meeting in autumn 2004.
